Storm Rolling In – Bailey Lighthouse – Dublin, Ireland – By Tommy Mcdermott
One of the best places we have seen to take a photo is where the land meets the sea. To have an amazing lighthouse there to brighten the picture is an added bonus. Please read Tommy’s story of this wonderful image below and the check out his galleries here

This shot was taken just after sunrise on a bitterly cold Sunday morning. To get to the lighthouse there was a 30 minute walk across a dew covered headland and I was soaked to the skin before I even got to the lighthouse. The light was changing constantly that morning and to be honest, I didn’t think that there would be much activity in the sky. Eventually as the sun peaked through it lit up the sky for a few minutes before this storm clouds rolled in. Composition of the shot was made easy by the dark storm front moving in from the sea, I used the rule of thirds to compose the shot keeping the upper right hand third on the lighthouse beacon, and reduced the focal length out to 24mm to take in the incoming storm cloud. It was a serious run back to the car as heavy rain moved in for the remainder of the day, but I was happy I got the shot I was after!
I always use Lee filters and used a 0.9 neutral density filter stacked with a 0.9 soft grad.
